Levi from LaGrande

This is Levi the pup mentioned in a previous post. Nursed quickly back to health he is ready for foster care. Levi may or may not at this point be on his way to Shedd. We need to work out transport from Baker City to Troutdale to Shedd. Anyone feel like a taking drive?

This is Levi, the little Border Collie that was found on the freeway outside of Baker City. He is a short hair and his tail is docked. Levi was taken to the vet, treated, vaccinated, wormed an is now very healthy. He is presently living with a St. Bernard mix pup, several MinPins, cats, cows, chickens and everything else on a small farm. The woman who found him says he is very smart and catches on quickly to things. The vet says he about 3 months old.

Becky on a chain

Becky is a spayed 3 yr old female. Been used for a couple litters of pups. Now needs to be rehomed! She is on a tie out chain because she chases cars etc and owner doesn't have a fenced yard. No pictures available yet. I will evaluate her later this week, but if anyone would want to contact her owner to possibly adopt or foster Becky let me know. She is in Philomath OR, I have contact info.

Shep and Sally

As of this morning no takers on the Jaycee or the male pup. But did receive notice of two more needing homes.

Sally, 3 yr old spayed female.
Here is her owner's 'Free to a Good Home' listing from Craigslist: She is a border collie who loves her sheep, but get a bit excited and grabs their necks with her teeth. She is fixed and about 3 years old. Not house trained. Not mean or aggressive. Very loving, but she has to live on a chain at my house. No pictures of her.

Shep, 6 mo male. Shep is a bc or aussie mix puppy. He's not going to be very big, weighs about 23 pounds now. Gorgeous markings, robust and healthy, great temperament, happy demeanor, fine with other dogs and children. His owner died suddenly. Photos above.

Jaycee

I was sent this info just this evening by a fellow rescuer, these are her words:

This is Jaycee, (photos above) she is 7 months old and has never been untied. They had her on a tether between two trees. She has lived outside since the family got her and I know the kids have kicked and hit her. She immediately came to me and knew that I was going to rescue her. She has killed their young chickens and ducks that wandered too close to her. Instead of putting the birds in a pen, they tried to pen her up in a pen with plastic fencing. She is really a nice little girl that has had no postive attention or training. She does know to sit and lie down. I had her vaccinated today and am boarding her in a kennel where she can be with other dogs. I don't think that she has ever played with another dog, so this will give her some exposure to dogs of all sizes under supervision.

She is safe in her current setting. If you would like to consider loving this young dog please contact me. I will put you in contact with her rescuer. Below in a short paragraph about a second Border Collie. As soon as I get the pictures I'll post them. Sounds as if he will be ready for a new home soon too.

(Levi) I also have another little shorthair Border Collie with a docked tail. A Best Friends person found him lying in the freeway near La Grande, dehydated and near death. She brought the sick and skinny little guy home and is nursing him back to health. He looks like he is about three months old. He has had his shots and wormed and should be ready to leave his foster home in another week or so. I am supposed to get pictures of him later tonight or tomorrow.

I'm posting this to my blog so I can easily get the info interested parties without doing individual emails. Please do consider adopting these dogs. I'm willing to provide whatever I can to help anyone interested in giving either of these dogs a home.

Walking in Shedd on a Sunday

Erin is one to be in charge always taking her leash in mouth leading the way. The community of Shedd has less than 10 streets. This lovely old church is on Hwy 99E. If you come by you can have lunch or breakfast at Shedd Store or Shedd Cafe. Add the US Post Office and that completes our lovely little town.

New Home for Dexter

Dexter has been with us since April. He has had some folks apply and come meet him, but no love connections. Last Saturday a family living nearby applied. I decided after the phone interview to drive Dexter over to meet them and to do a home visit. I left Dexter there. As I let myself out the front door he was giving kisses to his new owner on the couch. It feels like the perfect place for him. Some placements just really click and this is one of those.

I always suggest a two week trial it gives time for the dog to settle in and bond with the new family. Some dogs handle changes easily some don't. So a break-in period gives all involved a test drive of sorts with no hard feelings if it doesn't become a permanent home.

I wish Karen and family many loving years with Dexter! And thank you too, Karen, for the updates on his progress.

Always one more

It seems I often have a short list of dogs waiting to come here. I haven't been sharing this on my blog, but should. I can't take in every dog that I am contacted about. This is a part of doing rescue, making choices that involve the pack and humans here as well as the dog in need. There usually won't be any pictures so be patient with my rambling.

As of today waiting there is Jasmine, a six year old very overweight female, whose owner has died. The family took the dog to an older lady relative who just can't take on the responsibility of caring for a dog right now due to her own health issues. I've spoke with her a few times passing on phone numbers of others who might have room for the dog. I also contacted applicants I have on file that may be a fit for Jasmine. One such applicant did visit Jasmine saying she was very overweight, but a very nice friendly dog. Any takers?

A local shelter called yesterday wanting foster space for a young female aussie possibly BC mix already in its second new home because of minor behavior issues. Again I had to weigh the impact of one more canine here against if I say no the dog may be put to sleep. Luckily that wasn't the case. I passed hoping the other rescues I suggested would have room. Most have waiting lists, but will and often do make room for just one more.

Bringing a foster dog into your home can be an easy transition or be stressful for your other pets. Help/suggestions are a phone call or email away. There have been times when I've said yes to too many and have had to contact other shelters or rescue workers to help out by taking a dog off my hands.
