Merry Christmas one and all

Many will remember Enzo from earlier posts. His mom, Dorinda, shared this adorable photo today. Border Collies do make the best reindeer don't they. Enzo is in the center with his roomies Zip and Tig.

We wish you a Merry Christmas.
And a Happy New Year too!

Christmas grooming

They are so shiny and soft after their holiday baths. Had to add pictures of the Libby and Fiona the "dirty" little doggies too ;-) Thanks Sue at Doggy Styles here in Shedd. They're beautiful.

Fostering Break

Since bring the terriers into our lives last year we haven't fostered many Border Collies ourselves. Libby is so small we don't want to risk harm to her. Also our senior dogs, Bonzie and Bud, don't enjoy the company of canine guests like they once did. At some point in the future we"ll likely have fosters here again. For now we will continue to help place BCs using fellow rescuer help and rescue websites.

Nearly seven pounds of love

How embarrassing to have the whole wide web know how much you weigh. Plus having a bad hair day just awful just awful. ;-)

Ruby's summer fun

Aaron shares summer travels with his best friend Ruby, a Shedd Rescue adoptee. Great looking float coat too. Thank you Aaron.

Fishing with me on the ocean is definitely not one of here favorite activities but it wasn’t too rough so I brought her along.

Swimming after tennis balls, however, is the bees knees as far as Ruby is concerned. (picture from a recent vacation on upper Klamath Lake)

And there are nine sheep on the farm

We came home after going out for a bite to eat to find the ewe we'd been calling "Pink Butt" cleaning off a tiny little lamb. A girl, it took her a while to get the strength to stand up but she finally made it.
Mom continued to have contractions. The neighbors all gathered to watch the show. She constantly cooed to her babe the whole time.
"Pink Butt" was nick-named that because she had a very pink rear end when she arrived back in June. She is the most tame of all the ewes coming up for pets and treats anytime we are near the fence or in the yard.
Within a short time I saw a nose peek out and the second lamb came into the world. A boy quite a bit bigger. He was up and standing much quicker than the girl.
See the little black spot on the orange tinted lamb? She kept coming to me so I'd turn her around and shove her back to mom. I backed away not wanting to confuse her.
This morning they are much more clean and dry. Still wobbly, but have found where the food comes from...

Isn't that the cutest little face with those darling black spots on his nose.
This is the new girl with one of the twin boys born on July 19th.

The older lambs are very interested in the newest additions to the field.

Our flock has grown to 9 now and the ewe named double wide still hasn't popped. That will be a big event I'm sure. Could be three or four in her!

Miss Double Wide

We have nicknamed the ewe above "double wide" what do you think?

Every morning we go out to check for new little lambs. Three ewes are PG from what we can tell.

Enzo update

You can find more about Enzo in earlier blog entries. A most precious senior dog saved from certain death in the local pound by wonderful couple in Winston Oregon. As they live and love Enzo they are still finding things he apparently knows how to do! Wishing many more happy healthy years to Enzo and his humans.

Surprised by Lambs

One of our guest ewes gave us a wonderful surprise this morning. Twin lambs! We had no idea we had little ones arriving. Needless to say the whole neighborhood is keeping an eye on them. Another of the ewes is huge so we may have more surprises soon.

Happy birthday Libby

July 3rd was Libby's first birthday. She is our little "farm dog" always dirty faced and ready to take on what her day brings. Libby and her mom Fiona have changed our lives so much.
The pack endured the fireworks much better this year. I gave all but Libby a calming treat made by Pet Naturals. It really helped the anxiety level a great deal.
Happy Summer to everyone.

8 year old Mazzie needs a home

Mazzie's tale, her family is seeking a new home for her. If you are interested please see her listing on under Shedd Rescue on petfinder.com or contact me directly.

Mazzie is a Border Collie/Lab mix.  She turned 8 this past September and has been our dog since January 2004 when we adopted her at a shelter in Dallas, TX at 3 months old.  Mazzie was brought into the shelter after her and her sister were found in a field.  She is blind in one eye because it is thought that damage was done to it while she lived out in the field.  In the years that she has been part of our family, the eye has never had any issues.  Aside from this, she is a very healthy, happy and affectionate dog.

Nobody could ask for a better dog!  She obeys rules and instructions; she doesn’t bark; she doesn’t have accidents; she is great with kids and very low maintenance.  She is easy to train and wants to please.  Mazzie is such a sweetie and deserves a ton of love and affection – which is why we’re looking for a new home for her.  (We have two young children and are finding that we just don’t have the energy to give her all that she deserves.)

Sheep on our little farm

Tasha a local sheep farmer kindly loaned us six ewes to eat down the front half acre. The grass is so tall and thick we would never get a mower through it. These girls are freshly sheared and drying up after lambing. They have been observing the neighborhood cautiously while starting on the job of "mowing" our lawn.
