Fly's Tale

I drove up to Amity to meet Fly yesterday. A registered pure bred BC with a very soft temperament he just wants to be loved. He's so active he burns more calories than he eats so he's on the thin side. My hope is to find him a home that knows the breed and will provide the energy release he needs. Would love to bring him home to fatten him up, but I don't think there would be enough activity here to keep him happy. He's still with his owners on a beautiful sheep farm. They are committed to finding the perfect home for him. They started his training, but decided he didn't have the "eye" needed to be a good sheep dog. He may be an agility prospect or search and rescue.

Playtime for the lambs

This is my first attempt at a posting a video. I can't even guess how to put it to music, but you wouldn't want to miss out on the barking anyway. Our evening entertainment makes for tired happy dogs and quiet sleepy sheep.

Erin and Betty after their spring grooming

Erin has become such a beautiful dog her coat is very soft and shiny. Must be all that raw food she eats.
Sue our groomer here in Shedd does a wonderful job keeping them looking their best.
Betty Betty spends her day watching sheep.
Big smiles and pink tongues we all love summer and getting to be outside.

Libby's Two Years Old

One picture is never enough of this sweet little pup. No doubt she thinks she's a border collie. Happy Birthday Libby 7-3-2010

What's wrong with this picture?

The lamb's inside of course. Precious looking outside at the border collies just takes the cake. We do force her to spend time out in the front half acre with the big boy lambs part of the day. But I'm sure she thinks she's a dog.
Betty Betty, Fiona and Libby at the porch door while Precious has the run of the yard. Taunting dogs is a favorite pastime for a spoiled lamb. She claims the soft dog bed on the porch for a nap when she's tires of the game.

What? A house LAMB!

Precious follows me everywhere. She came up the stairs into the kitchen as I made her bottle. She helped me garden today by nibbling on every weed after I pulled it. The big boy lambs are too rough with her so I don't leave her unattended in the field with them. Needless to say she's becoming very spoiled. She doesn't show fear of anything and is getting much sturdier on her long legs. I think I've become the ol' ewe past co-workers thought I was....

"She" needs a name

Our first little ewe lamb this season was shivering so I put one of Libby's coat on her. Her face is so soft and cute. Her legs are long and still a little wobbly. After she has her bottle she falls asleep sometimes before the bottle is even empty. When Tasha dropped her off this morning she was so hungry she was sucking on anything near her mouth even my chin. She has taken to the bottle well so we'll hope she gets stronger fast. Now for that name....

Betty is our sheep dog

She's out for a walk with Whitey. In past pictures of the lambs you may have noticed two of them were very tiny. One went back to the farm the same day they all arrived due to being so weak, it didn't survive. The other little one died during the night this week. They both were born too early and may have had unknown health issues. The remaining three are doing great. More pictures to come when we get the sunny weather the weatherman is promising!

Spring time for lambs

Five bummer lambs have come to the farm. They have given purpose to being awake at 5:30 in the morning. Three are old enough to be bottle fed 3 times a day the two younger ones need to be fed more often. For some idea of how small the lambs are, they currently all sleep together in an extra large dog crate. They will likely spend the summer here  to keep the grass eaten off the front half acre then join the big flock for the winter. More pictures coming.

The dogs have been having a great time today! Lots of wet stuff to play in, at least it's not muddy.

Foster dog Max

Max comes to us after being rescued from euthanasia by a kind woman. He's moved right in claiming a spot on the couch like he's been here forever. He's likely a mix of Border Collie and a small breed dog, very muscular. So far he's been quiet and shy. More about him soon.
