Hef's body artwork
We have been trying to decide what we see in Hefner's markings. Is it a ? Or a ? Wouldn't it be funny for a dog to have the image of a ? on his body?
Good things come in pairs
What a wonderful weekend, sunny and warm. It couldn't have been more welcomed by two Border Collie mixes sprang from dog control on Thursday. After a short drive to Shedd they spent the whole day running in grass that needs mowing. They didn't seem to mind.
Now for introductions. Sally above, is petite happy and energetic she looks to have some Border Collie traits. Mostly just another little black dog needing a second chance. She fit right in and is a great guest. She will have her spay surgery soon.
Below meet Hefner, short for Hugh Hefner, since he's been well umm? Well, let's say playing hump the puppy with every dog in the yard that will let him. He's about 6 months old needing a trip to vet for neutering, poor boy. He's a real lover. Closes his eyes in comfort when you pet his head and melts into your arms like butter. The name just fit. Hef is a mix, seeing him is person makes it is a lot easier to guess his mix. Want to take a guess? No, I don't think it is pit bull. I'm not going to tell yet. We will get more pictures soon, that may help you.

Cats? Here?
Don't hold it against me for going to the dark side, ha. We have taken in three young cats which use our garden shed for their hide out. They get part of the yard that is away from the fenced areas the dogs occupy. So the canines get to see them and a chance to bark, but the cats are safe. We haven't gotten a picture of the third yet. Co-workers of mine trapped the cats in town and altered them. They are so wild we likely will never get to touch them. Releasing them in the city wouldn't have been a good option so we offered to take them. I think I might be feeding them too well though!

Two at Linn County
Just want to bring these to your attention if you are in search of a Border Collie. The mostly black pup is a female who was adopted from Linn County and returned a few months later. She will need to be spayed. The other is a male I don't know much about yet. Drop me an email or go to the Linn County Animal Control site listed on the side bar.
The ladies of the pack
Tess and Betty Betty after playing in the rain soaked yard are quite a sight. Tess usually stays clean while Betty Betty brings her mud coated self inside to paint with her wispy tail. It would make beautiful art work if it wasn't on every surface about knee high! We are taking a few days to relax from having so many dominate females in the house. Between Anna, Sky and Bonnie the stress level amongst the ladies was very high. I think they would rather spend time with some handsome MALE foster Border Collies.

Spud
Spud had been posted on my Shedd Rescue petfinder.com site for a month or so. Had lots of hits but no applicants. His owner Toni felt Spud needed a home without cats. The tale of Anna tugged at Toni's heart so she offered to foster Anna for me. So we traded. Spud came to Shedd to live cat free till he found a new home.
I must admit I think I got the best part of that trade. Spud is a dream dog. He has a soft temperament, good recall, he likes everyone and he slid into the pack with ease. If it didn't fill a spot needed by a future foster we'd keep him, he's a great dog. I posted him on the PNWBC Rescue site and bam! he has a family coming all the way from Seattle to see him tomorrow. I have little doubt that it will be a LOVE connection.
3-6-10 Update: Spud is now a Washington resident. His new owners were totally smitten with Spud. We wish them a long and happy life together.
